Gothenburg Hotels and Accommodation

(Gothenburg, Vastergotland, Vastra Gotaland County, Sweden)

Waterfront pictureAccommodation is widespread all over Gothenburg and the city does feature a number of quality hostels and plenty of mid-range hotels. A large number of the hotels in Gothenburg tend to offer good discounts during the weekends and the peak summer holiday season.

The Gothenburg tourist office is also able to arrange rooms in private houses and these tend to be amongst the cheapest accommodation that you will find, although a hefty booking fee is charged. Hostels are even cheaper and generally the best and concentrated on the south-western side of the city centre, in large apartment blocks.

Where to Stay

Backpackers and budget travellers looking for accommodation in Gothenburg could do far worse that consider staying at the STF Vandrarhem Slottsskogen Hostel on the Vegagatan. This friendly hostel is quite different to many others in Sweden and is a good place to meet like-minded travellers. The inner rooms are the cheapest, since they have no windows, while others offer basic views. Bicycle hire is available here and the breakfasts are quite outstanding and the perfect way to start the day.

If you are looking for mid-range hotels in Gothenburg, then there are plenty to choose from. The City Hotel is amongst the best and located on the famous Lorensbergsgatan, featuring surprisingly good value considering its extremely central location.

Further waterfront photoNear to both Gothenburg's bus terminal and the train station, the Opera Hotel is reasonably priced and features small 'budget' rooms and much more appealing, larger 'standard' rooms.

For a touch of history, the Hotel Eggers dates back as far as the middle of the 19th century and was originally established as a railway hotel, being situated along Drottningtorget. Something quite different in Gothenburg is the accommodation provided on the Hotell Barken Viking, since this is actually a beautiful four-masted sailing ship, moored alongside the Lilla Bommen harbour.

Those flying into Gothenburg and looking for accommodation nearby will find that the adjacent Landvetter Airport Hotel is hard to beat and contains just over 100 guest rooms, along with comprehensive business facilities.
