However, many of the main districts within Gothenburg are so compact and well laid out that the best way to get around is simply on foot.

Haga is actually the oldest district in Gothenburg and is where this city once originated in the middle of the 17th century. Many people head to Haga for its shopping districts, while the island of Hisingen features many harbourside attractions and appealing neighbourhoods. Also very much worth spending time in are the various attractions and locations around Kungsportsavenyn, Linnéstaden and Vasastaden, famed for its al fresco dining and period architecture.

Haga District

Famed for its many picture-postcard wooden houses and enticing atmosphere, the Haga district of Gothenburg was once a dreary working-class suburban neighbourhood and is today a clean, friendly and appealing destination for tourists. The pedestrianised street of the Haga Nygata forms the basis for this district and is lined with many shops, which sell everything from antiques and books, to jewellery and authentic Swedish gifts.

Hisingen District
